Story

The vineyards of Aigialeia, which bear fruit in a unique soil and climate, cover hundreds of hectares, forming one of Greece’s largest and most vibrant vinicultural zones.

The pioneering gravity-flow Rouvalis winery in the heart of Aigialeia has been making wine since 1990. Altitude, rocky outcrops, small carefully selected parcels of land, and terraced vineyards looking out over the Corinthian Gulf form an ideal location for “heroic viticulture”.

The majority of the winery’s vines are located at an elevation of 840 m., with many smaller allotments scattered around at elevations of up to 1100 m. The mountainous terrain is perfect for cultivating the indigenous reddish-skinned Roditis and Tsigello (Mavrodaphne). The winery’s viticultural profile includes a variety of other Greek and international varieties such as, Assyrtiko, Lagorthi, Malvasia, Viognier, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, as well as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.

As Angelos Rouvalis’ successors, Theodora Rouvalis and Antonio Ruiz Pañego have brought their dedication, skill and wide-ranging knowledge to the winery and create wines with personality that express the distinctive and unique terroir of Aigialeia, one of the world’s most interesting viticultural zones.

Kydonitsa 2022

100% Kydonitsa. The variety takes its name from the characteristic bouquet of wines made from it, which are redolent of kydoni (quince). It offers a very original and elegant, sweet wine which surprises on the mouth with “quince” tannins and lovely fresh acidity. It combines the mineral character with notes of citrus, honey and nuts.

Roditis Single Vineyard 2022

100% Mountain Roditis. Inviting aroma of pears and vibrant citrus fruits, nuts with subtle flavours and hints of honey and vanilla. On the palate the body is rich with lovely fresh acidity. Gently chewy with rounded texture and long aftertaste. It goes superbly with salmon, raw or steamed shellfish, grilled fishes, lamb with oil and oregano or fricassee.
