Story

Chatzivaritis Estate, a family-owned organic winery in Goumenissa, Greece, was founded in 1994 by Vagelis Chatzivaritis and his wife, Olga Iakovidou. Their shared passion for winemaking led them to plant their first 5-hectare vineyard in the Bindabla area, emphasizing organic farming from the outset.

The estate spans 20 hectares, cultivating indigenous Greek varieties such as Xinomavro, Negoska, Roditis, Malagousia, Muscat, and Assyrtiko. They also grow popular international varieties like Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignon.

In 2007, Chatzivaritis Estate built a boutique winery in the Filyria parcel, producing the renowned PDO Goumenissa wine. This wine quickly became emblematic of the region, celebrated for its elegance.

In 2017, their daughter, Chloi, returned to Greece after studying oenology in France and Portugal. She brought her passion for low-intervention wines and began experimenting with natural winemaking techniques, including pétillant naturel (pet-nat) and carbonic maceration.

Today, Chatzivaritis Estate produces a range of organic and natural wines, reflecting the unique character of the Goumenissa terroir. Their commitment to organic farming and low-intervention winemaking practices ensures wines that are authentic and expressive.

Visitors to the estate can enjoy guided tours and tastings, gaining insight into the winemaking process and the rich history of the region. The warm hospitality and picturesque setting make it a memorable destination for wine enthusiasts.
