Il Casino di Sala

Tuscany

Sangiovese

Arnaldo and Claudia, both originally from Naples, Italy, dreamed of beginning a new phase in their lives in beautiful Tuscany. For many years, they searched for the perfect place to begin this dream finally focusing on the small town of Panzano in Chianti.

Their new adventure began in 2005 when they finally found and purchased a beautiful property in Panzano with spectacular views and incredible sunsets. They named their property “Casino di Sala”.

The estate included a farmhouse, farmland, a beautiful olive grove, and a young vineyard. At that moment, the dream of becoming a wine and oil producer became more real.

The first few years after the purchase were dedicated to restoring the farmhouse, replanting the antique rose gardens, and providing care to the green surrounding the property. From the very beginning, Claudia fell in love with the 1300 olive trees. In her heart grew a promise – a challenge – a goal: to produce a truly special extra virgin olive oil.

Supported by Arnaldo, she studied, learned, and delved into all aspects of the supply chain. She became an esteemed oil taster, and after many years, she is proud to say that “Oro dei Tatanni” is one of the best oil in Chianti! Claudia still has many plans and always the great desire to improve her oil.

The wine project began in 2013, when Arnaldo and Claudia began wondering what they might do with their young vineyard. They decided to seek the advise from Gianpaolo Motta, a family friend and famous wine producer in Panzano. Looking at the small young vineyard, Gianpaolo immediately realized the great potential of that small plot of Sangiovese, allocated in the famous “Gold Basin” in Panzano.

The exceptional exposure, the uncommon altitude (550 m on s.l.), and the land composed of a shale-clay complex, gave the vineyard a particular uniqueness. And thus – another new and exciting adventure began for Arnaldo and Claudia!

In 2013 to strengthen the Sangiovese, the vines were repruned from cordon to Gouyot. 2014, was the first edition of the wine. Gianpaolo and his staff followed all of the processing phases: fermentation, refining and bottling. After a meticulous agronomic analysis, Arnaldo and Claudia decided to reduce the production to about 50 ql./Ha, to make their wine more expressive and to achieve a better development of the skins.

With the 2015 vintage, it became immediately evident the great potential of that Sangiovese and the future possible projections!

This was the birth of “ROSSO DEI TATANNI”.
