Story
For over a century, the Markou family has been shaping the winemaking heritage of Athens. Established in 1908 with their first Kapeleio in the heart of Psirri, the family quickly became a symbol of Attican wine culture. Today, the fourth generation carries this legacy forward with the same passion and dedication.
Our vineyards stretch across the PGI zones of Attica and the PDO region of Nemea, where old vines—some more than 65 years of age—produce low-yield, concentrated fruit. By blending traditional viticulture with modern oenological expertise, we craft expressive wines that reflect the true character of the Athenian terroir.
Highlights of our journey include the founding of the first artisanal winery and bottling facility in Attica (1983), the expansion to Nemea with Agiorgitiko vines (1998), and the creation of the Markou Wine Museum (2005), which preserves local winemaking traditions while offering tastings and educational programs.
Today, with 12 labels in our portfolio and growing exports worldwide, Markou Vineyards remains a family-run estate where history, innovation, and community come together.

Markou Vineyards Malagousia
A clear, pale-lemon appearance. The nose reveals touches of banana and ripe apricot, lifted by delicate floral tones reminiscent of orchard blossoms. On the palate, bright acidity complements the generous stone-fruit character, carried by a light, graceful body and a refined, lingering finish.

Markou Vineyards Phenomena
A golden hue with gentle green reflections. The aroma blends ripe peach and pear with hints of vanilla and toffee. On the palate, it reveals a generous, almost creamy texture balanced by soft acidity, while layers of toasted nuts and butterscotch add depth. The finish is long, expressive, and deeply satisfying.

Markou Vineyards Retsina
Pale lemon in color with subtle green hues. The nose is marked by fresh herbal notes, led by pine, complemented by mastic and a touch of citrus. On the palate, a medium body carries balanced acidity, unfolding flavors of rosemary, sage, thyme, and candied ginger. Vibrant and harmonious, it lingers with a long, memorable finish.

Markou Vineyards Savatiano
A light golden-yellow hue. The bouquet is well-balanced, highlighting white-fleshed fruits such as pear and green apple. On the palate, it shows a medium body with flavors of pear and jasmine intertwined with subtle mineral notes. Crisp, well-structured acidity leads to a long and elegant finish.

Markou Vineyards Theros
A vivid, sunlit yellow in the glass. The nose combines pronounced minerality with a hint of sea breeze, softened by the sweetness of ripe summer fruits.
